Berwick upon Tweed benefits from a distinctive local culture and heritage. Perhaps due to the town’s relative isolation from other population centres, there is a real culture of ‘thinking locally’, when it comes to cultural, social and economic activity. Keeping money circulating locally is one way of boosting the town’s resilience in the face of global economic turbulence.
Extending that ‘thinking locally’ culture to charitable giving and legacy-leaving can help local charities, voluntary groups and foundations get to people and problems others cannot reach; enriching lives and strengthening our communities.
A working group comprising representatives from The Berwick Community Trust, The Community Foundation and Greaves West & Ayre has been set up with the aim of raising awareness of the range of quality organisations in Berwick and to provide advice on how to make donations to them. In other words to help ensure that the generosity of the people of Berwick benefits people in Berwick.
As well as producing an information leaflet, the group is establishing an online database with information on the huge range of local good causes. We will provide progress updates over the coming months via our website, newsletter, social media and press releases. In the meantime, if you would like advice on how to update your will or make a charitable donation then please get in touch.
